Ministry Staff

Senior Pastor
Over and over again I’m impressed with God’s great blessings in my life—family, ministry, growth opportunities. I’ve been serving Pittsford Community Church in pastoral leadership since 1985 and still believe that the best is yet ahead for our church. I love teaching and preaching God’s Word in a systematic, expository (verse-by-verse) way and leading God’s people into a deeper walk with Jesus Christ.
God prepared me for this ministry through outstanding educational opportunities, beginning with my family upbringing in the little town of Moravia in the Fingers Lakes Region of New York. My ministry training included Moody Bible Institute (Chicago), Calvary Bible College (Kansas City, MO), Dallas Theological Seminary, and Liberty University (Lynchburg, VA). My capstone Doctor of Ministry degree came through further studies at Dallas Theological Seminary.
In addition to my ministry at Pittsford Community Church, I’ve been blessed to visit several countries and teach in places like Russia, Saipan, Chad (Africa), Ukraine, and Brazil. I also serve as an adjunct professor at Northeastern Seminary (Rochester, NY). Teaching is my passion!
But an even greater passion in my heart is my family. Monica (my high school sweetheart) and I have been married for over 35 years. God has blessed us with three great children and a wonderful daughter-in-law. Andrew is an officer in the U.S. Army and is married to Nicole, living in Colorado Springs. Emma is a graduate of Roberts Wesleyan College and teaches kindergarten in a charter school in Rochester. Adam is pursuing his college studies locally.
Of course, my greatest passion in life is to become more and more head-over-heels in love with Jesus. Hebrews 12:2 has been a guiding verse in my life for many years: “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus.” That’s my life longing, and I trust it will be my legacy.

Associate Pastor
I was born and raised in a “religious” family. The church was a place in which we “worked our way to heaven.” Our church was big on the “social gospel,” but not so much on the true Gospel of our Lord, Jesus.
All of that changed when I entered college. I began questioning what God’s love was all about, and the pastor of a wonderful little church near the campus was used of the Lord to show me what it is to truly love the Lord and to have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I received Him as Savior and Lord in March, 1970. At the same time, an amazing young lady named Karen came into my life. We became best friends, and then more than friends, and we became husband and wife in July, 1973. God blessed me with a most awesome wife, best friend, and ministry partner for nearly 40 years. Karen passed into the arms of Jesus in April of 2012, but she will never be gone from my heart.
The Lord blessed us with three children in the late 1970s. Jennifer, Wesley and Allison all grew to know Jesus as Lord and Savior, and all three married godly, Christian spouses [and, the “wonderful grandchild count” is now at eight!].
I experienced several careers [police officer, truck driver, retail manager]. Then, in 1985, the Lord opened the door to pastoral ministry. My life has been blessed beyond measure as He has allowed me to serve several churches in New York and Pennsylvania, and then to come to Pittsford Community Church as Associate Pastor in 1999. As I have grown in the love of the Lord, I find it an honor and privilege to [hopefully] help others to “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path.” (Proverbs 3: 5-6)

Assistant Pastor

Director of Children's Ministries
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” – Phil. 3:14

“I will never be like him…” As a child I remember saying that while looking at a priest I saw leaving mass one Sunday. God must have a sense of humor because it was not long after that that he called me into his service. I became a Christian my freshman year of high school at a retreat for Sr. High students. It was there that the Lord also called me into full time ministry. I attended Roberts Wesleyan College and obtained a degree in Youth and Family Ministry. After college, I joined staff with CRU (then Campus Crusade for Christ) and served as a campus missionary for 5 years. Currently, the Lord’s call on my life has led me to serve as PCC’s Director of Student and Worship Ministries.
The Lord has given me a passion to reach the lost with the saving gospel of Christ. I also have a love for music. I play guitar, sing, and love worshipping the Lord. Sports are also an interest of mine. I love competition and games. Perhaps that’s why I’m in youth ministry I have a beautiful wife, Becky, and daughter, Anna. I believe from the bottom of my heart that dogs are better than cats, and I am slowly warming up to the necessity for vegetables as a steady part of one’s diet. Above all, however, I am thankful that the Lord has freed me from sin and saved me from hell. “Not to us, LORD, not to us but to your name be the glory, because of your love and faithfulness” (Ps. 115:1).
I was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario -- Canada's Capital City! Born into a family with strong Christian roots, I began attending church when I was only three days old. At the age of 8, I accepted Christ as my Savior.
As a result of several significant losses during my high school years, my faith deepened and I developed an unwavering belief in God. Fueled by a deep passion for working with children, I earned my Undergraduate Degree in Social Sciences from the University of Ottawa and then moved to Buffalo, NY to complete my Master's Degree in the field of Elementary Education.
It was in Buffalo that I met and married my husband, Tim Thurston. In November 2008, we moved to Victor, NY and began attending Pittsford Community Church. I have been involved in the Children's Ministry at PCC since we first arrived and have served in both a teaching and a leadership capacity. Tim and I have been married for 9 years and have been blessed with four children Samuel, Julia, Anna and Drew.

Administrative Assistant

I’ve been serving in the office at PCC for over 22 years. I am originally from the Western Pennsylvania area and have lived in New York since 1981.
I came to know the Lord in a personal way at the early age of eight and was always active in church and youth activities, loved children, volleyball, and singing in various groups.
I am a graduate of Baptist Bible College in Clarks Summit, PA and majored in Christian School Education. I met my husband, Randy, in college and was married in 1977. After teaching several years in Christian schools in NY and PA, I took some time off to raise a family of two children (now grown) and am now a grandmother of one (Brooke). I returned to work part time at the University of Rochester, and through circumstances and a definite leading of the Lord, began a part time position at Pittsford Community Church in 1991.
Since 1991 the church has grown tremendously and so have the office responsibilities. I am now full time at PCC and depend on my faithful assistant, Susan Layher, to accomplish all the things that keep the church office “hopping” these days! I seek quietness, solitude, the outdoors, great friendships, and that “peace that passes all understanding” and keeps my heart in Christ Jesus!
I have been serving in the office since January 2015 and began attending PCC in September 1985 as a student from RIT. After recommitting my life to the Lord, I promised Him I would join a campus ministry & find a church. He led me to a wonderful group of believers in Campus Crusade for Christ & the person who gave me my first ride to PCC, Louis, would later become my husband.
When we were near graduation & engaged to be married, Pastor Dana challenged us to pray about staying in Rochester to find work & lead the College Ministry at PCC. We did so for 10 years until we began homeschooling our 3 children. We also started a chapter of NYS LEAH as a ministry of PCC. Concurrent with our 17 years as chapter leaders of PCC LEAH, I also served as a Sunday School teacher of children, served on VBS committee as teacher/counselor trainer, Hospitality ministry, Housekeeping ministry, & Women’s ministry.
I have a degree in Biotechnology & I worked in hematology research for 7 years before staying home to homeschool & raise our children. During those years, I worked in our home office for my husband’s businesses. After our children graduated, I began working other part time administrative & education related positions in various businesses.
Louis & I have been married for 28 years and have 3 children, Rebekah 24, Rachel 23 & Seth 21. I have a heart for teaching, mentoring, helping & administrating. It brings me great joy in the Lord to be on staff to serve my church family in this capacity.
